Wheel & Lug Nut Retorque Notice

Notice version 2026-08-23.2 ยท Last updated: August 23, 2026

This Notice applies whenever PTI Truck Repair LLC (“PTI”) removes or installs a wheel on your vehicle or trailer. It is referenced on your repair authorization and on your invoice. It applies in addition to PTI’s Repair Authorization & Terms and Limited Warranty & Refund Policy.

IMPORTANT โ€” WHEEL / LUG NUT RETORQUE REQUIRED

Wheel fasteners may lose clamping force or settle after a wheel has been removed and reinstalled.

Wheel lug nuts must be inspected and torque rechecked after 50–100 miles of operation following service, and sooner if any looseness, vibration, unusual noise, wheel movement, or other abnormal condition is noticed.

The customer, vehicle owner, and/or operator is responsible for ensuring that this inspection and torque recheck is performed.

DO NOT CONTINUE OPERATING THE VEHICLE if loose lug nuts, wheel movement, vibration, unusual noise, or any other wheel-related abnormality is observed or suspected.

1. When this Notice applies

This Notice is applied automatically to your work order whenever the work performed involves removing or installing a wheel. That includes, without limitation:

PTI may also apply this Notice manually to any other repair PTI determines to be applicable.

2. Your retorque window

PTI records the vehicle’s mileage at the time of wheel service and calculates the mileage range within which the inspection and torque recheck is due. That range appears on your invoice. For example, if mileage at service is 250,000, the retorque inspection is due between 250,050 and 250,100 miles.

Mileage at wheel service
Shown on your invoice
Retorque inspection due
50–100 miles later

Mileage is a guide, not a deadline you may extend. If the vehicle sits for a period and is then driven, the recheck is still due within the first 50 to 100 miles of operation after service.

3. What PTI does

PTI will perform the initial wheel installation and tightening/torque procedure according to the applicable service specifications and PTI service procedures. PTI documents, for each wheel position serviced: the service performed, the torque specification applied, whether final torque was completed, the technician who performed the work, the mileage, and the date and time. The technician must certify that documentation before the wheel-related job can be marked complete.

PTI also records any visible damage or unusual condition observed on studs, lug nuts, wheels, hubs, or related components, and may attach photographs. These records are retained as a permanent part of the work order and cannot be edited or deleted after the fact.

4. What you are responsible for

5. Who may perform the recheck

The recheck does not have to be performed by PTI. It may be performed by your own qualified maintenance personnel or another qualified provider, provided it is performed to the applicable torque specification. If you would like PTI to perform it, contact PTI to arrange a mobile service call. A retorque inspection is a separate service call and applicable service-call, travel, and labor charges may apply. It is not automatically free merely because PTI performed the original wheel service.

If PTI performs the recheck, PTI documents the current mileage, the original wheel service mileage, the wheel positions inspected, the condition found, the torque checked, and any corrective action taken, and attaches that record permanently to the original work order.

6. Effect on warranty coverage

Failure to obtain the recommended 50–100 mile wheel fastener inspection and retorque may affect warranty coverage for a subsequent wheel-fastener-related claim where the failure to reinspect or retorque caused or contributed to the condition.

PTI does not automatically deny a claim solely because PTI has no retorque inspection on file. Where PTI has no record of a documented recheck, the claim is flagged for management review and the determination is made based on the circumstances and the applicable warranty terms. See the Limited Warranty & Refund Policy for the full warranty terms, exclusions, and claim procedure.

7. Limitation

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PTI Truck Repair LLC is not responsible for wheel, stud, lug nut, hub, tire, or related damage or loss resulting from continued operation after a required inspection or retorque was not performed, after signs of looseness or abnormal operation were present, or from conditions not caused by PTI’s workmanship.

Nothing in this Notice limits any right or remedy that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.

8. Your acknowledgment

Where wheel removal or installation occurs, PTI requires the customer or authorized representative to acknowledge the following before the repair authorization is completed:

“I understand that wheel lug nuts must be inspected and torque rechecked after 50–100 miles of operation following wheel removal or installation. I understand that the vehicle owner/operator is responsible for ensuring this inspection and retorque is completed and that the vehicle should not continue to be operated if wheel looseness, vibration, unusual noise, wheel movement, or another wheel-related abnormality is observed or suspected.”

PTI records with that acknowledgment the customer or company, the authorized representative, the work order number, unit number, VIN, mileage, the date and exact time, the authorization method, and the version of this Notice accepted. That record is retained permanently and is not overwritten or deleted.
